Definition
Corns are thickened layers of skin caused by repeated pressureor friction.
Cause
Acorn is a small area of thickened skin that occurs on the topor side of a toe. It is usually the result of friction pressure from shoes thatdo not fit properly. Neither corns nor calluses are serious conditions.
Symptoms

Usually, removing the cause of the friction is the onlytreatment needed. If the corn is a result of a poor-fitting shoe, changing toshoes that fit properly will usually eliminate the corn in a period of weeks.Until then, the skin can be protected with corn pads or felt. If desired, usean abrasive such as a pumice stone to gently wear down the com. If an infectionor ulceration of the foot occurs in an area of corn formation, unhealthy tissuemay need to be ramoved by a health care provider and treatment with antibioticsmay become necessary.
