Because of naturally rough road surfaces outdoors, every step of the hiker is actually a test of the knee joint. A slightly rough road surface can challenge the alignment of the knee. This can cause an injury due to the decreased ability to withstand stress when the knee joint is fatigued or when the muscles are weakened.
